The Tennessee Fair Housing Council marched in the 2010 Martin Luther King Day march on Jan. 18, 2010, in Nashville and had a table at the convocation afterward at the Gentry Center on the Tennessee State University campus. After the convocation, Council director Tracey McCartney attended a press conference by TSU and John Trasviña, HUD's assistant secretary for fair housing and equal opportunity. The two announced a HUD initiative to provide fair housing education and instruction to college students. The initiative kicked off at TSU, where the Tennessee Fair Housing Council already has been working with faculty to bring fair housing into classrooms.
